The Flood

Jesus said in Matthew 24:37-39, “As in the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the Ark, they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

Notice, Jesus believes and teaches about the flood. Many today deny the biblical account of the Genesis flood, except those who believe the inspired Word of God. Also, eating, drinking and marrying is not wrong in and of itself, yet Jesus mentions it. Why? Because they did these ordinary things with no thought of God, nor were they thankful. In 2 Peter 2:5, “If He did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly.” The word ungodly in this verse, is the key word, it means living with no thought of God. Like many today, going through life without thinking of God, until the judgment comes.

In Genesis 7:16, “And those that entered the ark, male and female…went in as God had commanded him. And the LORD shut him in.” In shutting the ark’s door God distinguishes between the righteous inside and the wicked outside of the ark. God shut the doors because Noah might have heard the pleading of those outside and let them in, but now the door is closed by God.

The same will be at the coming of the Lord Jesus, the righteous will be safe, and the wicked will suffer judgment with no second chance. Today, this world goes about their business without any fear of the coming judgment. As Romans 3:10-18, “None are righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God… no one does good, not even one…their feet are swift to shed blood; and there is no fear of God before their eyes.” Jude, the Lord’s half-brother writes even strong in Jude 14-16 and describes a future prophesy…“Behold the Lord came with ten thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly, of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way…These are grumblers, malcontents, following their sinful desires; they are loudmouth boasters…” They live with no thought of God!

How then should we live as Christians? Jude 20-22, “…Beloved build yourself up in your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. Have mercy on those who doubt…” Jude is saying to be conscience of the Trinity, building yourself up in the faith by staying in God’s word daily, praying in the Holy Spirit, keeping alert in the Love of God, and realize that Christ’s mercy has saved you. In other words, living your life Coram Deo Latin meaning, living before the Face of God. If you do, you will be considered godly!
