SAVED…From What?
Decades ago, I was sitting on a beach in Southern California, it was a beautiful day, hot sun, cool breeze and the water was crystal-clear. I was deep in thought, no, I was tanning myself, when a young man walked up to me and asked this provocative question; are you saved? His hat shielded the sun so I could see him, and I responded, saved from what? My question caught him off guard and he was searching for the right response, then he blurted out …saved from Jesus. He immediately caught himself and corrected his answer by saying, no not from Jesus, but from hell. I really didn’t want to have a religious discussion on this beach, so I told him yes, I’m saved. The reality was at that time I my life I wasn’t saved, I didn’t believe in God nor Jesus, and I didn’t want to discuss it, yet six months later I became a believer and that was 1971. Reflecting back to what that young man said, and he was right with his first response to my question, we are saved from Jesus.
Revelation 19: 11-16, “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The One sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes are a flame of fire…He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is the Word of God….From His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations… On His robe and on His thigh, He has a Name written, KING of Kings and LORD of Lords.” In case you might miss it, this is talking about Christ coming in fierce judgement. In John chapter 3: 16-19, Jesus says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life…Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already… (because) people loved the darkness rather than the light because their deeds are evil.”
No one escapes the coming judgement except those who have placed their trust and believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God! Therefore, we are saved by Christ and from Christ’s judgement because the Father has accepted the sacrifice of Christ for those who believe.
