5 of 5, last in the series of what would you do if Jesus was coming back in two weeks.
Tell your family, friends, and neighbors about the Gospel.
The two great commandments were confirmed by Christ when He said in Luke 10:27, “Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and the other is like it, love your neighbor as yourself. Unfortunately, many don’t know that Christ added a third commandment in John 13:34, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you love one another. By this all people will now that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” For now, let us focus on the second commandment, to love our neighbors as ourselves. What is the greatest gift we could give our neighbors to demonstrate our love for them? Isn’t the greatest gift, the gift of eternal life? To teach them how to be born-again and assured of heaven through the Gospel of Christ? What is the reason for not telling our neighbors about Christ? Are we afraid? Do we feel adequate? Or is it deeper than that, is it that we don’t love them enough to try?
Ask your neighbor(s) over for a cup of coffee, or out to a place where you feel comfortable. Once you both have said your pleasantries, ask if you could share something without questions or comments for just 4 minutes. They will probably say yes, for they are curious, and then tell them the Gospel. What is the Gospel? Turn to I Corinthians 15: 3-6, “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: That Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that He appeared… to more than 500 people at one time…”
Continue to tell them the reason Christ came, like the Scriptures state, was to die for our sins. Everyone is a sinner and only one sin can keep a person out of heaven. But because of God’s love, He sent His only Son to die and pay for our sins so we can be forgiven. If we believe that the Scriptures above are true and confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord, the Bible says we will go to heaven, we will be saved! Not one good deed, or a million good deeds, will earn our way into heaven. The only way is believing in Christ and submitting to Him as Lord, this will seal and protect you, giving you eternal life now and eternal life in heaven.
Let us make a fresh commitment together, that we will by prayer, and God’s grace, tell our neighbors about Christ and the forgiveness He offers. Next month is December 2023, and December is a great time to share about Christ and the reason that He came to earth.
